Wedding Band and Cover Band Frequently Asked Questions
Should I hire a band or a DJ for my wedding? Why not both? Music is our passion, and we've performed hundreds of shows as both a band and DJ's. We always bring a complete laptop DJ system with us, and can provide dance music during any band breaks. We can also incorporate any spur of the moment special requests the band may not know DJ style.
Can we pick the songs we want you to play? We are flexible with regards to incorporating your requests of songs you do and do not want played. We can work with as much or as little direction as you want to provide.
We have songs we want that aren't on your song list. Will you learn a special request for us? We're happy to add a few additional songs for your event as long as we feel we can perform it to our professional standards. If you have something special in mind, let us know as soon as possible. It can take a few weeks to work a song up for a performance, although we've often worked with less time in a pinch. If it's something we don't feel we can perform to our standards or don't have enough advance notice to prepare, we can still accommodate your request via DJ.
Does size matter? We perform as a duo, trio, or quartet depending on the needs and budget of our clients. We utilize professional audio gear and can provide sound appropriate for any size venue. With our diverse backgrounds and musical experience, we are able to cover just about any genre of music out there. Our clients often remark about the quality and fullness of sound coming from such a small package. Often times our ability to provide big entertainment in a small lineup is an asset as venues often have limited space available for bands.
What factors influence the cost for an event? Date, time and place of the event are the main factors.
Can you "hold" a date for us? It's very difficult to hold a date for any length of time without a deposit. We receive inquiries for dates continuously, and we often have multiple requests for the same date. It is sometimes possible to give you "right of first refusal" on a certain date, meaning that we will inform you as soon as any other serious inquiries turn up for your requested date.
What should I be looking for in a band for my event? Aside from musical skills, an experienced wedding and event band should be well versed in the flow of events at a function. They should have knowledge and experience working with event planners and coordinators to ensure that different events take place as intended and are coordinated with other vendors (photographers, videographer, etc.) We have helped coordinate hundreds of weddings, private parties, and corporate events throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Kansas.
How many breaks do you take, and what happens when the band stops? We usually perform 45 - 60 minute sets with a short break in-between for the band. Generally during this time we'll provide DJ style music or solo acoustic music, depending on the timing and pace of the event. So even when the band takes a breather, the music and entertainment never stops!
What time does the band arrive to set up prior to the function? We typically start setting an hour to an hour and a half before our performance, but often arrive even earlier depending on the needs of our client, the venue, and any special circumstances that may arise.
Can we see you perform/meet you before our event? We maintain a complete calendar of events on our website. While much of our work involves private parties and receptions, we also gig regularly around the DFW area. Many couples and potential clients come to our shows in the area, and we do maintain a rehearsal space/office about 20 miles SE of Dallas that you're welcome to drop by with an appointment. However, with the busy lives we all seem to live these days, most of our clients seem to prefer to handle arrangements and planning via email and telephone.
We're concerned about the volume? How can we make sure the band isn't too loud? We are EXPERTS at keeping the volume just right. During dinner we play a mix of acoustic music at a volume that allows your guests to carry on a conversation. After dinner we adjust the volume to an appropriate level for dancing, but if you feel the need to raise the roof we can crank it up when ready!
We've decided that we want to hire Hackberry Road as our entertainment. What happens next? We'll send you a contract that clearly spells out the terms and conditions. A deposit is due along with the signed agreement. We'll mark your date as reserved, and begin to work out a timeline of events with you.
Do you have any other helpful hints or suggestions? The tone of the party is most often set by the Bride & Groom or hosts. If you're dancing and having fun, your guests will follow along and have fun too. While it's appropriate to spend some time greeting your guests to thank them for attending, don't forget to get out there and party! Our most successful receptions are those where the Bride & Groom lead the way. It's your party - enjoy it! Good planning and communication will enable us to do the best possible job of maintaining a smooth flow of events. Get all of your information to the band as early as possible, including your itinerary, wedding procedure form and any other special requests or dedications. If you have a special school song, sing-along or other unique song, please tell us a few weeks in advance. We know a lot of songs, but there are some that we don't do or may not have the words for. If a song has a significant meaning to you, your family or your guests, please tell us early! Finally, once you've finished your planning, relax and enjoy your wedding day! With Hackberry Road, you can be assured that your entertainment will be the best that it can be!
